So this month I will be working on new covers for books 1+2 of Off*beat.  They will be reprinted with my new publishing company and match the layout, logo ect of the eventual book 3.  I would like to add some extra content, and my publishers have agreed to possibly adding a limited copy insert as well.

I’d like to know what the patient, patient, (bless your souls ;_;) patient readers of Off*beat would be interested in seeing as added content and a possible limited insert.

I was thinking for added content perhaps more little funny strips, kind of omake? style. Or sharing some of my photography and talking a bit more of actual locations in NYC that heavily inspired the setting.

For limited inserts, I was thinking of perhaps a post card, bookmark, or stickers.

If you have any thoughts on this, please let me know.  Thanks!

And I will have more updates in the months to come :)

Witch’s Quarry has been promoted to a premium series at Mangamagazine.net!

Yay!  What a great way to kick off 2013!  My new years resolution is to draw and write comics non-stop this year.  The wonderful staff at Mangamagazine has offered my series a promotion and I have decided to take the leap and make Mangamagazine the main hosting site for Witch’s Quarry.  What does this mean exactly?  Besides lots more witch-filled, awkward, adventures to come of course!

I’ll cut straight to the heart of the matter.  Premium comics are subject to subscription walls.  This means readers do have to subscribe to read the most current content.  However, everyone will still have access to completely FREE content at a slower rate.  Proceeds of the subscriptions help to pay the creators compensation for their comics and allow them to dedicate more time to pumping pages out faster.  I did debate with this idea for awhile and ultimately decided to accept the promotion because I highly believe in the quality, content, and integrity of the other premium comics and creators.  For $2.99 a month, subscribers are given access to ALL premium content and help to support ALL of us.  For those of you that cannot pay for a subscription, Mangamagazine offers some quick, easy ways to get FREE subscriptions.  Read about it here: http://www.mangamagazine.net/promotions

This opportunity is allowing me to go back to updating Witch’s Quarry 4-5 times a week.  Along with another major project kicking off in 2013, I am finally taking the plunge to quit my retail job and devote myself to comic projects full time this year.  Smackjeeves will still host the full archive of released comic works of 2012 and will be updated at a slower 1-2 pages a week.  I hope you will continue to read, enjoy and support Witch’s Quarry.  If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.  And have a totally kick ass 2013.  Here’s to another year of chasing dreams ;) Let’s never give up!

Season’s Greetings!

First of all I wanted to thank everyone who for took the time to write me a few thoughts on Witch’s Quarry. This month has been difficult to muster any creative energy, (Nov/Dec is terribly demoralizing when you work retail) and these notes were a life line for me. I was originally planning to draw a couple names to send the bookmarks to, but seeing there was 7 participants, I’m pretty sure I can swing the shipping on that. I’m sending them each a bookmark!

Thank you for those of you who supported Witch’s Quarry at Mangamagazine! results from Manga Magazine donation pool for November is $62 (I rounded up XP) So there will be an extra page update this Wednesday.

I’ll try to think another giveaway for Jan/Feb so if you have any ideas let me know. <3

Lastly, I am really hoping that things will finally be going through with Off*beat and at the beginning of the year I’ll be able to make an official announcement.  I am still holding off until I get things in writing, (and rather thankful that I have since it’s been pain painstakingly delayed on the paper work)  but I swear I will make a post about it as soon as I can.

Just a reminder guys that I’m giving away my art nouveau inspired bookmarks!  Not very many people entered so chances of winning are very high!

Off*Beat chibi charms, first attempt third batch. (Colin: Second attempt.)

I had original, when sketching out a plan for the charms, thought that Tory would be difficult to make. Turns out Colin was the hardest. My first attempt was a disaster and didn’t look anything like him. I sure hope this one looks like him. I think it does…but then again, I’m looking at them threw rose colored glasses! CX

Tory- Height: 2 inches, Width: 1 inch.

Colin- Height: 1 inch and a half, Width: 1 inch.  They were made from oven baked clay and painted with acrylic paint.

Anyways, I was super excited to make these. Off*Beat is such a cute story.

Tory and Colin are from Off*Beat, a graphic novel by Jen Lee Quick. You can visit her on her DA page: http://wulfmune.deviantart.com/

Or you can visit her and see her online comic here: http://witchsquarry.smackjeeves.com/

When did I start to truly dread the “holiday season”?  Not sure when exactly all the fun got completely sucked out of it to be replaced with stress, obligations and financial crisis.  Probably when I became an adult.  I get really depressed and tired about this time of year.    I can’t wait for February/March already ):  I’m not so much a Grinch because I hate happiness, joy and fun.  I just don’t have the time and money.  And that sucks :/

Anyways to my fellow retail workers, here’s to another Black Friday…another six weeks of the Christmas jingle loops, to no requested days off allowed, and can’t you stay a little later and come in a little earlier??  Here’s to hoping customers remember to treat us with common human dignity. Cheers~!

I have gone through a few different versions of how I wanted the “sword of light” depicted in my comic.  It works okay for the most part I think (special effects are soooo not my forte ): ) every now and then whether it be a prop, or a sound effect, or a word balloon, I end up having to cover up more than I wanted. phooey ):

Anyways! Thanks again for supporting my comics. I will continue to dream and strive towards a future when I can enjoy the winter months again!

Hey Guys,

So Witch’s Quarry has been featured on Mangamagazine.net!  The staff has been very friendly and cool!
There is little monetary compensation, given based on reader traffic, so if you’d like to show your support the comic there, I’d be forever grateful.
Any proceeds I receive will go towards my extra page donation pool.

Who knows?  With enough readership, I might be able to make premium membership, quit my retail job and publish monthly chapters again.  One can always dream ^_~

Again thanks so much for following Witch’s Quarry, where ever you may choose to read it!  Also if you could help me spread the word and perhaps reblogging this, I’d be very grateful.

Mangamagazine will be updated on Mon, Fri and sometimes Wed.
SmackJeeves will be updated Tues, Thurs and sometimes Wed.

And here’s a sneak peek pic of Ser Fuzzy- I mean Sir Jethry ;) and his epic blue chest hair!

Questionwhat about VOL 3 of Offbeat? Sorry if its a touchy subject i just love your work! and would like to know if it out or if somethings up? I wait for your reply plz and thank you Answer

Ah it’s not touchy at all!  I apologize for not being able to give an official news yet.  I’m still waiting on some paper work and since things have been getting delayed beyond my expectations, I’m very hesitant to say anything until I have it in writing.  Thank you so much for your interest and support.

First of all I’d really like to thank everyone for the support they have given my artwork and stories.  I’m really very honored and flattered that some readers have donated towards supporting Witch’s Quarry.  It was much more than I could have expected, and it really lifts my spirits to give me affirmation in my work.  I also thank those who have been actively following the story through it’s highs and lows.  The readership and feedback has been so inspirational, I feel pretty spoiled sometimes!  I know I mentioned before that I need to cut back.  Which, unfortunately I still need to do, but I am waiting some more for my contracted work to get situated so this gives me a little extra leeway to gradually work towards getting that first book print ready.

I’ve started working on coloring some of my earlier pages.  I’ve wanted to do this for a long time just to have some consistency.  It’s interesting being forced to take a good long look at my earlier pages.  It feels kind of nice being able to edit the artwork a bit.  One thing I’m not able to do with printed works. Unfortunately, I’ll never stop looking back at old artwork and finding things I’d like to change.  But then again, I guess that’s really fortunate, because I’m really looking forward to continually improving my craft.  It’s such a slow process to maturing my style, and sometimes I get really lost in my short comings and frustration.  I just have to keep remembering the large picture and looking back at my old stuff to remember all the steps that bring my journey to where I am now.  And keep putting one foot in front of the other.
